Ahojte

Napišem vam anglictinou pretože ne hovorim veľmi dobre slovenčinou. Žijem len jeden rok na Slovensko.

I'm living in Bratislava and I like to ride bike. Usually I'm not using it for sport but for tourism.
In the spring 2013 I'm planning to make several 3-4 days rides in Slovakia and maybe in Austria and Chezh. I have several question about tourism in Slovakia and aspecially about bike tourism. Question are about rules of biking, rules of bike transportation in autobusses and trains, etc

As I understand, this forum is more related to sport. Maybe somebody at this forum know any website, webforum or any other type of online community related to tourism on bike.

Ďakujem :)

Hi, maybe this helps: http://www.zssk.sk/en/luggage-and-bicycles
http://www.slovakia.travel/portal.aspx?l=2&smi=108094 (short text "Cyclists on roads")

And beware, stealing bikes is almost a national sport :) :) And drivers are bad, you probably know it already.

By the way, some users here write in Slovak language worse than you :D

And you can find here tourists too, for example big gallery, but mostly far away from Bratislava sukromne-akcie/po-polsku-na-bicykli-v-noci-t27078.html :)

Hi

Thanks for these answers.

Slovakian drivers are quite polite. I'm often use my bike to ride on common roads and I have never had any problems with cars. Busses and trucks make me slightly nervous due to their sizes but generally I feel quite comfortable on roads.

Several people have told me about bike stealing and I have bought two different locks for my bike. I hope it will help.

I'll ask some more questions. Maybe somebody here can answer.

About transportation. How do you think if it will be possible to pack a bike in such package http://www.amazon.com/Nashbar-Bike-Transport-Bag/dp/B004UMC886 and ride on bus? Should i pay more for that big baggage?

About driving rules. When you are driving on bike on the common road then you have to be at the right side of road. Meanwhile, if you need to turn left then you need to get to the left lines. If it is allowed by driving rules in Slovakia?

Cykloturist Rymanow does something similar to what I'm going to do. The only difference is that i'm planning to use more baggage in my trips. At least tent, sleeping bag, kitchen tools and food will be added. Maybe something more.

Ahoooj, je tu niekto z bratislavskyh cykloturistov?

I do not see problem with transporting bike in that "bike transport bag", you will probably pay a bit more (I think it is cheap). Some companies say they will not transport "very big luggage", but it depends on driver what he considers as too big :)

Driving rules - yes, you have to ride on right side and when are you turning left, you should be somewhere near centerline. I ride depending on situation. I just try not to slow down drivers or make them angry :) I hate turning left when there are lots of cars behind me, so sometimes I just wait (let them overtake me) and then I just go safely like this http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/graphics/english/pubs/cycling-guide/left_turn393x209.jpg :D (image from http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/pubs/cycling-guide/section3.1.shtml )
Here is short guide how to ride on roads (for kids  ), but it is in Slovak language :( http://www.zachranari.sk/Default.aspx?CatID=383

I know that some people here from Bratislava are making sometimes long trips, this one for example http://capulo.mtbiker.sk/ :) You can try to write him, I hope he will answer some of your questions (I do not know what language he prefers, probably Slovak :) )
