In 25 out of 27 EU Member States, at least half of respondents correctly say that it is true that “human beings, as we know them today, developed from earlier species of animals”. Respondents are most likely to correctly say that human beings developed from earlier species of animals in Sweden (88%) Denmark (85%) and Spain (79%). Less than half of respondents correctly say that this is true in Cyprus and Slovakia (both 46%). Among the non-EU countries surveyed, respondents in the UK (78%) are most likely to correctly say that it is true that human beings developed from earlier species of animals, while those in Kosovo (30%), Türkiye (39%) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (40%) are the least likely to say this.
