The gutsy Swissman never gave up, but he just didn't have any gasoline left in his legs, so his adventure was over a couple minutes later. Skirmishes continued all through the next (and last) portion of the journey, with Contador amongst those showing up on the front. Milram's Peter Velits and Matej Jurco, as well as the Ukrainian Andriy Grivko, also gave it a try, even making some small gains in the last 3-4 miles. But with the peloton riding like motorbikes at 60 kph - even if no team had taken matter into their hands - how could young Grivko and Jurco think that they were going to make it?
