Can I manually change the recording method on my Edge 800?
As an activity is performed, the Edge 800 will continuously leave track points. Each track point will contain a vast amount of information, i.e., speed, location, elevation, and power. Therefore, the more tracks the device records, the higher the accuracy and detail of the workout.
The Edge 800 offers the options to choose between Every Seconding recording and Smart Recording. The default setting is Smart Recording. To change the recording method to Every Second:
1.Select Menu
2.Touch Settings menu (tool icon)
3.Touch System
4.Touch Data Recording
5.Select Recording Interval to 1 Sec
The Edge will now start recording tracks every second.
If Data Recording is not present in the System menu, update the Edge 800's operating software. The ability to change between the two recording methods was added through a software update.
What is the difference between every second and smart recording?
Some of Garmin's Fitness devices offer the choice of Smart Recording or Every Second Recording.
Smart Recording records key points where the fitness device changes direction, speed, heart rate or elevation. This recording type allows the user extended recording time given that it is recording less track points, thus taking up less memory.
Every Second Recording records the activities information every second no matter if the device changes direction, speed, heart rate or elevation. This recording type provides a more defined track log of your activity. However, recording time will be reduced given that it taking up more memory.
